Morning, Evening or Full Day? Choosing Your Yala Safari

· 1 min read

Two leopards resting in the shade of bushes in Yala

We run three kinds of safari in Yala National Park. Here is a simple guide to help you choose.

Morning safari: 06:00 – 11:30

The most popular choice. We pick you up before dawn and enter the park when the gates open.

Choose it if: you have only one safari and want the best chance of seeing a leopard. Mornings are cool, leopards are active, and the light is soft for photos.

Evening safari: 14:00 – 17:30

An afternoon drive into the golden hour.

Choose it if: you arrive in Yala in the morning, or you prefer not to wake up at 4:30 AM. Animals become active again as the heat drops, and elephants often come to the waterholes.

Full day safari: 06:00 – 18:00

A whole day inside the park, with lunch by the beach.

Choose it if: you are a photographer or a serious wildlife lover. You get both active periods, fewer jeeps in the middle of the day, and time to wait for the best moments at a sighting.

Our advice

If you can, do two safaris: a morning and an evening, or one full day. Every drive is different, and more time in the park means more chances for a great sighting.
